1) Self-use: Procurement required by UN agencies to maintain global operations
2) Peacekeeping: supplies needed for UN peacekeeping operations
3) Emergency relief: procurement of humanitarian and emergency relief
4) Development assistance: from developing countries, to developing countries
The share of United Nations procurement has been tilted year by year towards developing countries and countries with economies in transition. In recent years, the share of United Nations procurement in developing countries and countries with economies in transition has exceeded 60% of the total procurement, and the trend is growing year by year. The proportion of goods and services procured by the United Nations in total procurement has also changed, with the proportion of goods procured annually by the United Nations in total procurement decreasing year by year, and the proportion of services procured increasing year by year.
As for the sources of UN procurement funds, there are usually three types: UN agencies are independently responsible for peacekeeping, humanitarian relief and development assistance projects and procurement activities for their own office needs.
(A) Regular budget: apportionment by all Member States on a proportionate basis.
(B) Peace-keeping operations: apportionment among Member States at a rate different from that of the regular budget.
(C) Voluntary contributions from Member States.
